Project Ruins is a unique and innovative project looking at recording solely through online music collaboration. The artists involved have never met, played or practiced with each other, but have managed to produce an album which stands at the forefront of modern metal music. Combining technicality, crushing breakdowns, and melodic guitar work with a strong emphasis on song structure, the ten tracks showcase the possibilities of Internet music collaboration. The project essentially began around 2006 when musician David Beaumont decided to write a series of metal songs, with the aim of playing them in a full time touring band. Unfortunately, after taking on a Sound Engineering degree there were various time constraints and it was not possible to do this. An academic project was then drawn up to see how how advances in technology and software have allowed musicians to successfully record and collaborate from different locations. Responses to the idea were immediate with artists from 11 different countries in 5 different continents all expressing an interest in recording. Eventually, a group of exceptionally talented musicians were selected to record and produce what is the groups debut album. The band released their debut album on iTunes in Fall 2009 (itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=327447871&s=143444
) and are currently about to track material for a second album
